Canada and Australia’s trading relationship extends back to the late nineteenth century when Canada sent John S. Larke as its first Trade Commissioner to Sydney in 1895. Despite this long standing relationship, no Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce has ever existed in Australia.

In late 2004, a group of business people interested in promoting trade and investment between Australia and Canada formed a committee to establish the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce (CACC).

The committee’s challenge was to determine how to add value to the defined mission of increasing the level of trade and investment between Canada and Australia. From extensive market research and consultations came a set of strategies with a sustainable business model in mind, one which could truly add value to its defined mission. Following this period of consultation and development, the CACC was launched on October 20th 2005.
